An amendment on tomorrow’s ballot wants to extend the Forever Wild Land Trust, which has acquired land across Alabama for public use and conservation. The trust has been funded with royalties from oil and gas leases, specialty car tags, and federal grants since 1992 and in that time has opened more than 227,000 acres of land for public use. Over 4,000 acres on Coldwater Mountain were secured and a bike trail was opened last June. The proposed amendment on tomorrow’s ballot wants to extend Forever Wild’s ability to secure land for another 20 years. Land already purchased by Forever Wild will remain public even if tomorrow’s amendment fails.
