There must have been a big sigh of relief in Auburn Saturday after the Tigers trounced their homecoming opponents for their second win of the season. Auburn won their match against New Mexico State 42-7.
"Obviously it was great to get a win today. I'm very proud of our team because I feel like they've worked every week and...today they deserved it," Coach Gene Chizik said.
Today's win is something the team can build on, Chizik says, leading up to their rivalry match against the Georgia Bulldogs.
But for now, Chizik says, "we're going to enjoy tonight and enjoy the victory."
And what about new starting quarterback and true freshman Jonathan Wallace?
"[Wallace] started of a little bit slow. I couldn't be more proud of him. Overall I couldn't be more pleased with how he managed the team, directed the team," Chizik said.
Chizik tempered that praise by saying tomorrow would be a new day and he was sure that once he and the staff started going over Saturday's game they would find areas to improve.
The Auburn Tigers will host the 8-1 Georgia Bulldogs Saturday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. CST on ESPN2.
