Florence City Board of Education member Jim Fisher has resigned because of comments he made about teacher salaries on Facebook.
Fisher submitted a letter of resignation to the board Friday. He said in the letter that he had made a "grave mistake" by publishing his comments in a public forum.
Fisher wrote his Facebook posting in response to the board's recent decision to give school superintendent Janet Womack a pay raise.
In the Facebook comments, Fisher said Florence teachers were making above the state salary matrix and said local teachers had not lost their jobs.
School board president Bill Jordan said he thinks Fisher did the best thing for the school board in resigning.
