Police are investigating a fatal shooting near Athens.
Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely stated that a person was fatally wounded early Saturday morning.
Blakely said a man woke up to the sound of a pickup truck at an intersection. The person said the truck left, then returned.
The man told police that he went outside to flag down the truck. The vehicle took off, and the man fired a gun. One person was shot in the back and died.
Authorities said their investigation is ongoing.
