Auburn head coach Gene Chizik opened his press conference following his team's tough loss to LSU by giving people some perspective of how unimportant a college football game is in life. "I want to start out with a non-football related situation. It is a very heavy heart for myself and a lot of our players and a lot of our coaches right now. The young man, who was a student assistant with us, in football passed away shortly before the game unexpectedly, and it is very tragic." Chizik said before talking about the game. The student assistant he was referring to was 23-year-old Joe Bagwell, a former Auburn athletic trainer turned student coach and a Huntsville High graduate. He had reportedly suffered from a heart condition, and just last month visited his cardiologist at UAB Hospital.
Many of his friends and family have said their goodbyes and shared memories on his Facebook wall today in the wake of his death. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family." Chizik said.
