Don't be a Stupid Cupid: Scammers love Valentine's Day too

Each year millions of people drop hundreds of dollars on their loved ones for Valentine's Day. What they don't realize is they may be falling victim to one of the biggest fraud days of the year.

Valentine's Day scam #1: Fake Valentine's e-cards. This e-card scam tricks its victims by placing a dangerous link in the email. Once the person clicks on the link, the browser is then sent to an exploitive server, but the victim has no clue what's taking place behind the screen. A useful tip: always be wary. Don't open anything you don't know what it is or who it's from.

Valentine's Day scam #2: Flower fraud. Many websites claim to be legitimate flower sites offering great deals. The truth is they can be call centers and the money you spend goes right into its pocket. Here's a tip: when ordering flowers, stick to the well known brand names that have a long list of loyal customers.

Valentine's Day scam #3: Jewelry. It's the gift that all women want. What you may not realize, this is the time scammers sell worthless goods to unknowing buyers. Here's a tip: when purchasing jewelry, do it in person.

Valentine's Day scam #4: Email claiming delivery is held. Scammers will send out fake emails saying your delivery is being held, with a link to follow. once directed to the new website, it asks for verification of your credit card information before the items can be sent out for delivery. Here's a tip: always call the seller of the goods before you divulge any information through the site.
