The Alabama Department of Public Health is issuing a new warning to you and your family. They say the number of known cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease are increasing and are more severe than usual this year in Alabama.
No cases of the disease have resulted in death, but there have been hospitalizations. Hand, foot, and mouth disease usually infects children five and younger.
Symptoms include fever, rash, poor appetite, painful mouth sores, and a sore throat. You can avoid the disease by washing your hands frequently with soap and water, disinfect surfaces, and avoid close contact with infected people.
