Anniston Voters have cleaned house.
Anniston Attorney Vaughn Stewart won the race for mayor of Anniston Tuesday, with 55% of the votes, or 2,746 votes. Finishing in second-place was opponent, Anniston businesswoman Ann Welch,receiving 856 votes, or about 18 percent of the vote. Incumbent Mayor Gene Robinson received just 337 votes, or 3 percent.
Ward 2 Councilman Herbert Palmore lost with only 23 percent of the vote. Sheffton Goodson and David Reddick will face each other in a runoff Oct. 9. Goodson had 391 votes, or 35 percent, while Reddick got 491 votes, or 43 percent.
Ward 3 Councilman Ben Little lost by nearly a 2-to-1 margin. Seyram Selase got 517 votes, or 62 percent of the vote. Little got 308 votes, or 37 percent.
In Ward 4, incumbent Marcus Dunn is up for a runoff against Millie Harris. Dunn got 33 percent of the vote to Harris’ 39 percent.
Ward 1 Councilman Jay Jenkins was appointed to the council in January and is the only sitting councilman with an assured spot on the next council. Jenkins received 58 percent of the vote, with 554 votes, and Andy Hatley received 42 percent, or 398 votes.
