As Alabama prepares for Hurricane Isaac, residents should be aware that standing water from heavy rains is likely to bring an increased amount of mosquitoes to the area. Mosquitoes have recently made headlines for their transmission of the deadly West Nile Virus. Here are some tips to eliminate areas where water may accumulate once the storm hits. •Use soil or gravel to fill low areas in lawns and landscaped areas. •Drill holes in the bottom of tire swings to prevent rainwater from accumulating. •Barrels or containers that capture rainwater should be emptied frequently. •Cover children's sand boxes, kiddie pools and bird baths to avoid a build-up of rainwater. •Examine gutters for clogs and damage that would cause water to collect
