Developer Ronnie Gilley is asking a federal judge to delay the date he must report to federal prison for medical reasons and to deal with financial issues.
Gilley was recently sentenced to six years and eight months for his guilty pleas to multiple bribery and money laundering charges in Alabama's gambling corruption case.
His attorney David Harrison says a recently discovered medical condition calls for preparation time, surgery and recuperation time that will likely extend beyond the Aug. 27 reporting date.
Harrison stated that he's hopeful U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson will grant the extension, which would allow Gilley to be seen by his own doctor and save the government from paying for Gilley's medical expenses while in prison.
